This spring we have noticed a troubling increase in the number of working people turning to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank for support. This number is rising at triple the rate of those with other income sources such as pensions and income assistance. That’s an 86% increase in working folks visiting the Food Bank during the past year.
We recognize the Food Bank was never set up as a long-term solution to solving hunger but the need persists. We are not a government agency and rely entirely on the incredible generosity and support of our community.
Thank you for your continued support!!

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is Moving!

July 2019 the Greater Vancouver Food Bank will move into our new home in Burnaby. At the new location we will be doubling the refrigeration capacity thanks to a refrigeration grant from Food Banks BC. The increase in space will greatly improve our ability to receive large fresh food donations and then get that quality food out to our members and 77 agency partners.
The new GVFB will be located at 8345 Winston St — a quick 10-minute walk from the Production Way Skytrain Station. As we complete the move we invite all existing and new volunteers to visit the new location to help out with a warehouse food sort, in the office or front of house, or at one of our many events. Stay tuned to our social media channels for up-to-date information!

Goodly Foods — It’s Official!

Goodly Foods hosted their official launch on March 7, 2019. It’s been almost two years since Goodly began the journey from planning to pilot to full production. The Goodly team did an amazing job organizing a wonderful launch event to acknowledge all of the incredible individuals, organizations and businesses who have sponsored and supported this truly unique initiative.

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is especially grateful to Walmart Foundation for their $1.1M investment grant that allowed the initiative to grow. Goodly Food’s Hearty Tomato Vegetable Soup is currently being distributed to Greater Vancouver Food Bank Community Food Hubs and Partner Agencies and is available for sale to buying partners.

Volt: (n) a unit of potential

VOLT is a volunteer program at Langara College created by and for students to increase community engagement and social awareness. It started in 2015 as an idea by two college students. It’s grown into a movement more than 3,000 students strong.
Program founder Maggie Stewart says, “We found that some of our students were hesitant to go out and volunteer in the community. We chose to partner with the Food Bank to help make a low-risk, low-barrier volunteer experience.
Since 2015 we’ve had 11 volunteer events with the Food Bank, including 118 participants who have donated 417 volunteer hours.
I can’t remember a single student who left the experience not wanting to stay in that warehouse and get through more food. It’s just been an incredible experience to work with the warehouse team.”
Thank you! You’re helping create a new generation of socially aware, community minded citizens dedicated to ending hunger for all.
