This is a full-time, permanent position, with the opportunity to learn and grow. The successful candidate can expect a base salary of $62,100 annually, depending on experience.

Position Overview
The Communications Officer – Social Media is a creative and strategic leader responsible for strengthening the Greater Vancouver Food Bank’s digital and physical presence and advancing its brand through innovative, trend-driven strategies. The Officer also executes minor physical branding and graphic design projects. Reporting directly to the Manager of Communications & Community Engagement and the Chief Executive Officer, this role drives GVFB’s digital storytelling, audience engagement, and online community growth to amplify the organization’s mission of providing healthy food to those in need.
As the organization’s digital and physical brand leader, the Officer leads content creation, storytelling, influencer partnerships, and digital campaigns that convert engagement into measurable impact, expanding awareness, inspiring donor and volunteer participation, and supporting fundraising and advocacy efforts across British Columbia.
Working closely with the Communications Assistant, the Officer oversees the development of high-quality visual and written content, manages GVFB’s social media strategy across all major platforms, and ensures every touchpoint reflects the organization’s voice, tone, and values. They will design digital and physical organizational collaterals in Canva, guide visual brand evolution for online and in-person channels, and mentor team members and volunteers in best practices for storytelling and digital and physical communications.
The Officer also leads the creation of detailed performance analytics and actionable insights, preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual social media reports for leadership. In addition, this role provides coverage for the Communications Officer – PR & Media and Communications Assistant when required and serves as a key collaborator and representative in external partnerships, influencer relations, and digital advocacy opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy, Digital Campaigns & Execution
- Develop and implement GVFB’s social media strategy across all major platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube)
- Develop and execute digital campaigns that drive tangible outcomes such as website conversions, volunteer sign-ups, and engagement in support of GVFB’s strategic priorities.
- Leads GVFB’s digital community growth strategy by defining audience personas, optimizing engagement funnels, and leveraging analytics to inform brand storytelling, donor engagement, and conversion.
- Elevate GVFB’s digital voice with innovative, trend-driven content.
- Manage scheduling, monitoring, and reporting using Hootsuite and Later software.
- Serves as a digital ambassador for GVFB by representing the organization in partnerships, influencer collaborations, and digital events to enhance visibility and engagement.
- Stay ahead of digital and social media trends, especially short-form video.
Content Creation, Graphic Design & Storytelling
- Lead the production of high-quality content: photography, videography, reels, stories, graphics, and posts.
- Create digital ad campaign content for the organization, working alongside the Development team to ensure cohesive communications.
- Provides mentorship, creative direction, and hands-on training to Communications Assistant, external staff, and volunteers in digital storytelling, ensuring consistency and capacity-building within the department.
- Collaborate with the Communications Assistant to script, capture, and edit storytelling content.
- Capture, edit, and produce professional-quality photos and videos using both cameras and mobile devices.
- Create minor collateral for small projects and assets needed by external departments
- Purchase digital and physical assets as projects require.
- Edit visual content using tools such as Lightroom and video editing software.
- Design creative assets in Canva for social media, as well as basic organizational needs such as signage, posters, and small collateral projects.
- Create vector-based graphics and work in Adobe Illustrator to ensure scalable, brand-consistent visuals.
- Build a content library for campaigns, events, and ongoing digital storytelling.
Brand Alignment & Content Approvals
- Acts as a digital brand guardian ensuring GVFB’s visual identity evolves cohesively across all platforms, leading adaptation of brand elements for new digital formats and campaigns.
- Edit, proof, and approve collateral and content produced by other departments to ensure brand consistency and alignment.
- Support the approval of written content across the organization, maintaining tone, accuracy, and adherence to GVFB’s brand guidelines.
- Provide coverage for the Communications Officer – PR & Media and the Communications Assistant when required.
Analytics & Reporting
- Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on social media performance, engagement, growth, and ROI.
- Conduct regular social media audits and propose actionable improvements.
- Present results and insights directly to the Manager of Communications & Chief Executive Officer.
Analytics & Reporting
- Cultivate relationships with influencers, creators, and collaborators to expand GVFB’s reach.
- Work with internal teams and the Communications Team to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
- Support GVFB leadership and spokespeople with social media visibility and amplification.
General Flexibility
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Manager of Communications & Chief Executive Officer to support organizational priorities.
- • Provide general flexibility around working hours for on-site presence at internal and external events, storytelling circumstances, and partnership meetings.

Qualifications and Experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or related field, or relevant years of experience.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in social media strategy and management
- Demonstrated expertise in Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and short-form video storytelling.
- Strong proficiency with Hootsuite, Later, and Canva.
- Skilled in photography and videography using both professional cameras, equipment, and mobile devices.
- Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or equivalent).
- Experience editing and retouching photos with Lightroom.
- Experience vectorizing images and working in Adobe Illustrator.
- Experience producing Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual KPI & Analytics Reports.
- Experience developing and managing influencer campaigns and collaborations.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, and content management systems considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions;
- The ability to walk and stand intermittently;
- Bending and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs intermittently;
- Travel to visit Agencies and other food banks as needed.
