Who We Are
The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and childrenβs shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB distributes 8.9 M lbs of food each year.

Position Overview
The Distribution Associate is involved in multiple aspects of our weekly provision of healthy food to those in need in our food distribution sites across our catchment areas of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and North Vancouver. The Distribution Team works alongside volunteers to serve those who struggle with food insecurity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and delegate tasks to a team of volunteers that help onsite;
- Communicate to corresponding departments regarding issues and incidents as they occur;
- Effectively communicate, employ problem-solving skills, and adeptly address conflicts with clients in a manner that is both respectful and professional;
- Set up and restock food lines for maximum efficiency and productivity;
- Ensure the distribution site is clean and well maintained at all times;
- Work and collaborate within a team to execute various tasks within food distribution;
- Complete administration and data entry tasks involving our in-house client database, Microsoft Word, and Outlook;
- Book and conduct client intake appointments and ensure accurate information is being inputted;
- Welcome and scan clients as they arrive;
- Patrol and monitor outside to ensure safety for all those on-site;
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Distribution Assistant Manager.

Qualifications and Experience
- Verbal and written proficiency in other languages is an asset;
- Training or experience in de-escalation and conflict resolution is an asset;
- Previous experience working in the hospitality industry or in customer service roles is very advantageous;
- Working experience of using Microsoft Word and Outlook;
- Public speaking experience and comfortable speaking in front of small groups.
Physical Requirements
- Physically fit and have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis;
- Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions;
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
- The ability to walk and stand throughout the shift.
