About Us
The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to more than 141 community agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB receives, purchases, and distributes 8 M lbs of food each year.
Position Overview
Looking for a flexible role that allows you to pick up shifts on a casual basis?
Our vibrant and community-oriented Events Team is looking to add on an additional Events Team Lead to our roster.
The Event Team Lead is a dynamic, outgoing and self-motivated individual. You will work on a casual, on-call basis executing and overseeing external GVFB Events in conjunction with volunteers and other GVFB staff. You are keen to develop relationships and enjoy stewarding the mission and vision of the GVFB. The position requires a team player with a drive for community and passion for making a difference.

Key Responsibilities
- Familiarize yourself with the event, and the programs, services, vision and mission of the GVFB.
- Attend briefings and training as required to ensure the successful execution of an event.
- Responsible for gathering supplies and equipment needed for events, leads the set-up and tear down, and safe return of equipment, food and money.
- Drive GVFB branded vehicle to and from events, as required (if you do have a driving license).
- Proactively engage with the event organizers, and the general public at on-site community events, as the GVFB Brand Ambassador.
- Collection of both food and cash donations while on-site at community events.
- Manage and supervise on-site event volunteers, delegate specific tasks to volunteers and ensure adequate training and instructions are provided to volunteers.
- Assist with the day of event social media promotions in coordination with GVFBS Communications Team as needed and take photos at events.
- Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on event day.
- Report back on the condition of inventory, collateral and vehicle, and advise to order new supplies when required.
- Provide event feedback, including post-event report and post-event, thank you as requested.
Personal Attributes and Core Skills
- Engage and direct volunteers from diverse backgrounds that have been recruited to support the event.
- Be a brand ambassador representing the Food Bank and abides by the policies, processes and agreements as set by the GVFB.
- Be highly organized, an effective multi-tasker, a go-getter who needs minimum supervision and focused on delivering an excellent outcome.
- The ability to think out-of-the-box and problem solve on the go is key.
- Well-developed communication skills, discretion, sound judgement and professionalism are paramount in this service role.
- High energy, outgoing and eager to initiate conversation with the public.
- Must be able to take initiative and self-manage.
- Independent problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Good listener, accepts direction, and takes charge.
- A willingness to wear branded GVFB clothing as provided.
Qualifications and Experience
- Events management, fundraising, public relations, retail or customer service experience.
- Availability to work at different locations throughout the GVFB's catchment cities.
- Work flexible hours including weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays. Hours will vary by month. Approximately 5 – 15 hours per month.
- Experience working with and supervising a team of volunteers is advantageous.
- Clean BC Class 5 clean driving license considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Physically fit and have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis.
- Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions.
- The ability to walk and stand throughout the shift.
