MEDIA ADVISORY: Goodly Foods Hosts Official Launch
Media invited to be a part of official launch event
March 6, 2019
Vancouver, BC – Members of the working media are invited to join us as we officially launch The Greater Vancouver Food Bank’s Goodly Foods initiative – a social enterprise that is repurposing surplus produce from local suppliers while creating supportive community employment opportunities.
Goodly Foods is a unique initiative led by the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) with support from Fulmer Capital Partners Inc. We work in partnership with Commissary Connect, BC’s first Regional Food Hub and Hope Action Values Ethics (H.A.V.E.) Culinary Training Society.
The GVFB’s Goodly Foods initiative is now in production of our first product, a Hearty Tomato Vegetable Soup, thanks to a $1 Million investment grant from the Walmart Foundation as well as continued support from Fulmer Capital Partners Inc.
“At Goodly Foods, we cook with potential, and we want to thank the Walmart Foundation for their vision of the potential in Vancouver’s food system to eliminate waste,” says Alexa Pitoulis, General Manager of Goodly Foods. “This investment has allowed us to increase our processing capacity and invest in job opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment.”
For every 1000 litres of Goodly™ brand Hearty Tomato Vegetable Soup produced:
- Over 1000 kg of produce is repurposed and diverted from organics waste disposal;
- 462 kg of C02 emissions are averted; and,
- Over 100 hours of supported, living wage, employment in BC food processing are created.
Members of the media will be able to speak to Alexa Pitoulis, General Manager of Goodly Foods.
