Direct Food Support For Individuals & Families

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank provides direct food support to supplement the diets of thousands of individuals and families each week by way of locations throughout Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore.

A document outlining all of the locations can be found here.

We believe people should have access to healthy and nutritious food where they live and in a dignified manner.

Over a 30 year history, our footprint has grown significantly due to the kind support of the community who have donated materials, time and facilities for our use. These are managed by hundreds of generous, dedicated volunteers who give up their time each week to provide access to food in local communities.

We often challenge ourselves: Are we located in the right places to best serve our client’ needs? Are we providing the right types of service?

Thanks to client feedback and community collaboration, we are currently working hard with our volunteers and locations on the ground towards a dignified environment for those accessing our services.

  • We’re looking at transforming our 13 food distribution centres — located across Burnaby, New Westminster, North Vancouver and Vancouver — into more welcoming and accessible spaces
  • By identifying potentially suitable spaces and partners we are able to provide a more welcoming environment, reducing line ups and opening up access to other service providers – from low cost pocket markets to counselling services.
  • We call this new model a Community Food Hub, where people can gather in their community in a dignified manner. They can have a hot beverage while having access to healthy, nutritious food, and education around food choices and skills.

This has (so far) led to the transition of two of our locations into Community Food Hubs and we look forward to continuing this work.
