Who We Are
The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to more than 130 community agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB receives, purchases, and distributes 8 M lbs of food each year.

Position Overview
The Driver is responsible for the collection of food from donor locations, and delivery to our distribution sites and Community Agency Partner locations. Acting as a GVFB brand ambassador, the Driver builds relationships with our donors and vendors, delivers to our distribution sites, as well as provides warehouse support through Forklift operations and inventory management. This is a multi-faceted, highly engaging, and important role for the GVFB. The Driver is a team player with a positive attitude, willingness to learn, a solid understanding of operations, and the ability to act as a GVFB champion.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate several different vehicles such as vans, 3-ton trucks, and 5-ton trucks to pick up and deliver food products as scheduled;
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections, report defects and damage of the vehicles to ensure safety and reliability using digital technology;
- Organize and load vans or light trucks, with an understanding of weight requirements, to Receive, unload, and put away incoming products into inventory;
- Maximize efficiency and load distribution;
- Prepare and wrap pallets, and weigh and load all completed orders;
- Ensure functional areas are kept clean and organized at all times;
- Inspect and count inbound and outbound shipments for accuracy, food quality and/or damages;
- Ensure all product returns are put away correctly in the warehouse, following internal processes. This includes supplies, nutrient recovery, and fresh, dry and frozen product;
- Assist and provide training to new Drivers as needed;
- Fuel trucks at card-lock locations;
- Communicate and liaise with Driver Team Lead and/or Logistics Assistant Manager;
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse, including but not limited to, operating industrial machinery, distributing food, order picking, sorting, cleaning, and data entry;
- Regular Warehouse Week cleaning and maintenance of all vehicles, and other duties as assigned by the Logistics Assistant Manager.

Qualifications and Experience
- BC Class 5 clean driving license;
- Class 3 is advantageous;
- Provide 3 years Insurance Claims History and 3 years clean drivers Abstract;
- 1+ years of experience operating industrial machinery in a warehouse environment is advantageous;
- Commercial driving experience an asset;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint, and iPhone technology;
- Flexibility around work hours, to include occasional evenings and weekends as required, shifts may be subject to change;
Physical Requirements
- Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions;
- Proper safety footwear required with reimbursements provided;
- Bending and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs on a regular basis;
