Administration
Administration volunteering is a great way to gain professional office experience. Most roles require basic computer knowledge and customer service skills. Roles include reception and administration support for different departments. You can expect to speak with donors and clients, respond to emails, complete data entry and provide general admin support.
- Donor Customer Service – Helping the Development team with phone calls and online donor inquiries, handling donor information, processing donations and issuing tax receipts.
- Front of House / Reception – Being at the front of house and welcoming clients, helping clients collect food, signing up new clients, answering phone calls and forwarding emails.
- Volunteer Administration Assistant – Assists with data entry, form processing, scanning and filing. You may also assist new volunteers in completing their criminal record check forms.
Community Events
Throughout the year the GVFB holds many community events ranging from golf tournaments, grocery campaigns, festivals and seasonal events like the Santa Claus Parade. These are one-off events and don't have a minimum shift requirement. General tasks include setting up information booths, accepting donations and talking with the general public about what we do at the GVFB.
Food Distribution
Volunteers will be on-site at one of our 4 distribution locations in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster. Volunteering at a distribution location provides 1:1 interaction with food bank clients in need of weekly food support. Roles include mobile registration, line ambassador and language translation support. Some of our distribution locations provide hot food to our clients in a pop-up hospitality suite during food bank service. This is a great role for those who enjoy serving and interacting with clients in a fast-paced, friendly atmosphere.
