Role Overview:

Volunteers will play a key role in restocking the shelves with fresh, frozen, and pantry items during and after pick-ups. This is a great opportunity to ensure the FIFO method is applied to reduce food waste and directly contribute to supporting the community.Β Β 

Responsibilities:Β 
  • Quality check and sort perishable and non-perishable deliveries before restocking shelves;Β 
  • Efficiently organize food to ensure proper placement and easy access;Β 
  • Rotate items based on first in, first out (FIFO) method;Β 
  • Ensure areas are well stocked and merchandised to GVFB standards;Β 
  • Sweep and clean the facility to maintain GVFB standards;Β 
  • Monitor parking lot and provide directions to Agencies and vehicles as needed;Β 
  • Recycle packaging and compost spoiled food.Β 
Core Skills and Abilities:Β 
  • Can complete tasks independently;Β 
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks promptly;Β 
  • Confident in completing tasks independently with minimal supervision.Β 
Physical Requirements:Β 
  • Can work independently;Β 
  • Ability to stand for three hours;Β Β 
  • Ability to periodically work in a cooler and freezer (adequate jackets and gloves are provided);Β Β 
  • Ability to bend, twist, and lift materials (up to 40lbs) safely.Β

Location:

8345 Winston Street, BurnabyΒ Β 

Role Overview:

Volunteer as a parking attendant and be a vital part of making distribution run smoothly! You’ll help guide traffic, ensure a safe and organized parking area, and enjoy the fresh air while helping us provide healthy food to those in need.Β Β 

Responsibilities:Β 
  • Clearly communicating with Parking Attendant staff to coordinate traffic flow and address issues efficiently;Β 
  • Directing clients and vehicle traffic to ensure the parking lot is clear;Β 
  • Monitor the parking area for any potential hazards or issues, ensuring the safety of both drivers and pedestrians;Β 
  • Ensuring parking spots are available for designated clients (ex. Single parents and individuals with a disability sign);Β 
  • Controlling the speed and flow of traffic;Β 
  • Greeting clients, answering general questions, and redirecting queries to the Parking Attendant when necessary;Β 
  • Assisting staff with setting up/tearing down distribution sites (signage, stanchions, tents);Β 
  • Completing other distribution-related tasks as instructed by staff.Β 
Core Skills, Abilities, and Experience:Β 
  • Excellent communication skills;Β 
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods, sometimes in varying weather conditions;Β 
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks independently;Β 
  • Ability to give clear directions and communicate effectively with drivers and fellow staff;Β 
  • Ensure vehicles are parked safely and efficiently while monitoring the overall parking area;Β 
  • Ability to handle unexpected situations calmly and efficiently;Β 
  • Enjoys interacting with the public;Β 
  • Front line, retail, or customer service experience is an asset;Β 
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is an asset.Β 
Physical Requirements:Β 
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time;Β 
  • Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain)Β 
  • Ability to lift and move cones, signs, or light equipment (up to 20lbs) safelyΒ 
Age Requirement:

People aged 18+Β 

Schedule:

Friday from 11:00 am - 3:30 pm

Commitment:

Weekly shifts for 3 months (3 shifts per month). Opportunity to extend volunteer efforts after 3 monthsΒ
