About Us
The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB distributes 8.9 M lbs of food each year.

This is a full-time, permanent position, with the opportunity to learn and grow. The successful candidate can expect a Living Wage based salary of $50,068 annually.

Position Overview
The Agencies Operations Associate supports the Agencies Department with daily operational tasks such as facility maintenance, inventory data tracking, and pantry, cooler and freezer fulfillment. They ensure that our Agencies and volunteers have a consistent, reliable, and friendly experience at our distribution sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Agencies Operations Lead with fulfillment of food in coolers, freezers, and pantry areas, rotating stock and communicating with Winston Street Operations for replenishment;
- Weigh and track the distribution of food picked up, support weekly metrics reporting, and ship paperwork to the Winston head office data team;
- Support the Agencies Operations Lead in maintaining machinery, shelving, infrastructure, safety practices and cleanliness of Agencies Distribution facilities, including Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recall knowledge and postings;
- Communicate all Agency Partner changes and requests with other Agencies Department staff in a clear and timely manner;
- Support staff and volunteers with training in all operational functional areas at the Vancouver CAP Market;
- Complete daily volunteer tasks such as: orientations; supporting, engaging, and directing volunteers; and supporting with communication and requests from the Volunteer Department;
- Assist with Partnerships team projects, such as surveys and events;
- Participate in annual objectives and support new department changes and initiatives;
- Complete necessary printing, signage and other office needs as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience
- 1+ years’ experience working in a non-profit, warehouse, food distribution industry or related field;
- 1+ years’ experience working in a volunteer focused environment is advantageous;
- Ability to work out of both GVFB Vancouver and Burnaby locations as needed;
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite;
- Experience working in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
- Experience with industrial machinery, such as an electric pallet jack, with a class 1-5 Industrial Machinery certification is an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Steel toe footwear required (annual budget from GVFB after 3 months’ probation);
- Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions;
- The ability to walk and stand intermittently;
- Physically fit and have the ability to bend and lift boxes up to 50 lbs.;
- Occasional travel around the Greater Vancouver area may be required on an as-needed basis.
