Role Overview:
Everyβ―day is different in our lively warehouse. As a Warehouse Support volunteer,β―you willΒ playβ―anΒ important roleβ―in ourβ―operations behind-the-scenes.Β From sorting and packing donations to building ordersβ―and a variety of warehouse tasks,β―your flexibility will helpβ―keepβ―our operationsβ―runningβ―smoothly.β―
Responsibilities:Β Β
- Quality checkβ―and sortβ―perishable (fresh) and non-perishable (dry)β―items;β―β―Β
- Follow GVFB food safety and best before date practice guides when sorting;β―Β
- Pack sorted donations into boxes and follow specific item count;β―β―Β
- Ability to safelyβ―identifyβ―and handle spoiled food, including food affected by mold;β―Β
- Disposeβ―ofβ―packaging and food into correct bins: garbage, recycling, compost (green bin),Β ReFeedΒ (blue bin), andβ―Depack;β―Β
- Followβ―instructions, procedures,β―FIFO (First in, first out)β―and safety guidelines to helpβ―maintainβ―the quality and safety of food and beverages;β―β―Β
- Palletizeβ―items, then wrap, weigh, and label sorted pallets;β―β―Β
- Move pallets of produce with a manual pallet jack (training provided onsite);β―Β
- Organizeβ―and repackage sleeves ofβ―diapers for orders;β―β―Β
- Clean the work area at the end of each shift, includingβ―emptyingβ―waste bins, wiping surfaces, and seeping and mopping floors;β―Β
- Understandβ―and follow instructions independently;β―Β
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to create a safe working environment;β―Β
- Assistβ―with other warehouse-relatedβ―dutiesβ―assigned byβ―Warehouse staff.β―β―β―Β
Core Skills and Abilities:Β
- Ability to work in a busy and sometimes noisy environment where machinery may beβ―operatingβ―during shifts;β―Β
- Strong attention to detail toβ―identifyβ―expired, damaged, or spoiled food items;β―Β
- Ability to perform basic math calculations or willingness to learn;β―Β
- Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively in a team environment;β―Β
- Flexibility toβ―assistβ―with different tasks as needed in a fast-paced environment;β―Β
- Ability to complete tasks efficiently and meet deadlines to help keep operations running smoothly.β―Β
Physical Requirements:Β
- Ability to stand for three hours;Β
- Ability to bend, twist, and lift up to 40 lbs safely;Β
