My name is Alain, and I’ve worked as a Distribution Associate at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank for over 5 years. Every day, I witness firsthand the incredible impact of our donor’s generosity. But today, I’m sharing these stories with you so you can understand the impact of your support.
The need in our community is growing at an alarming rate. Each month, we see over 500 new clients register for help because they simply can’t keep up with the rising cost of living in Greater Vancouver. As children go back to school, parents are faced with extra costs and equipment, including the daily school lunches.
When I think of kids going to school hungry or a parent struggling to provide breakfast before class, I’m reminded of why our support is so crucial. The GVFB helps to bridge the gap between a hungry child and their ability to make the most of their education. The fresh produce, nutritious meals, and essential groceries that fill our distribution centers? That’s all thanks to our community of donors and volunteers.
I’ve seen firsthand how a simple bag of groceries can bring tears of joy and relief to families struggling to make ends meet. One of our new family clients recently shared their happiness in receiving fresh fruit for the first time in many months.
These are the realities I see every day. And that’s why I’m sharing these stories with you.
