Greater Vancouver Food Bank Is Celebrating the Purchase of Their First Ever Permanent Facility
September 16th, Burnaby, BC β The Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) has officially acquired its permanent facility at 3454 Lougheed Hwy, Vancouver. After relocating six times in four years, this achievement, following the success of its first-ever Capital Campaign, ensures long-term stability and sets the stage for future innovation.Β Β
The 16,000 sq ft building includes over 19,000 cu ft of refrigeration, supporting GVFBβs commitment to fresh, perishable food, which makes up over 75% of weekly client menus. The GVFB, seeing over 832,000 visits through both direct distribution and agency partners, expanded their infrastructure to allow both sections of the organization to now operate under one roof, streamlining logistics and enhancing service delivery across the community.Β Β

The promise of a permanent home empowered the GVFB to launch its recent initiative this past January, FRESH Start Program, connecting clients onsite with third-party partners addressing the key drivers of food bank usage. In its first eight months, the program has achieved an 88% success rate, offering integrated support that breaks down siloed approaches and helps disrupt the cycle of food insecurity. This initiative reflects GVFBβs ongoing commitment to long-term food security and innovation.Β
This major milestone by the GVFB reflects the collective efforts of donors, partners and community champions who stood by their side every step of the way. The purchase of the Vancouver facility secures the future of GVFBβs life-changing operations and strengthens its ability to advance long-term food security and poverty reduction.Β

“I am deeply grateful to every donor, partner, and volunteer who made this campaign a success. Your generosity has given us more than a permanent home; youβve given us the ability to provide healthy food and hope for our community for years to come. The future is full of possibilities, and this achievement belongs to all of us.β β David Long, CEO, Greater Vancouver Food BankΒ
