September 21, 2020 – Please note our location changes for the upcoming months!
We have been providing food at Mt. Pleasant Community Centre for years to our Vancouver clients. Throughout the pandemic, they have opened up for us each week so that we can provide healthy food to those in need in Vancouver. Now they are resuming their regular programs and need most of their gymnasium back. We need a large space to keep our physical distancing protocols in place for the 300-400 people/day who need our support.
We are happy to announce that we have found a temporary location, at no cost to us, owned by the Low Tide Properties. They are providing us with the use of a 20,000 sq ft warehouse starting in October until our new home is ready in early 2021.
Effective Tuesday, October 6th, 2020 we will welcome our Vancouver clients to 1428 Charles St., in the East 1st Ave. & Clark Drive area. It is a 15-minute walk, or a short bus trip along Clark Drive, from VCC – Clark SkyTrain station.
Secondly, with winter approaching as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, the North Shore Neighbourhood House is going to take over the distribution of food from the GVFB on Wednesdays. Wednesday, October 7th will be the last day of GVFB hosted food distribution outside on East 2nd St. from 4pm to 6pm. Starting Wednesday, October 14th, the NSNH will be distributing GVFB food hampers to those in need of food support from 1pm to 6pm onsite. To receive food at the North Shore Neighbourhood House, you must be a GVFB client.
August 31, 2020 – Please be advised that there will be NO street parking available at the Winston Street distribution location starting September 1 until October 30.
The City of Burnaby is putting in a sidewalk on the south side, and the entire street will be a tow away zone for the whole month. If you are visiting the food bank, please make arrangements to travel by SkyTrain to the Production Way-University Station. Alternatively, please considering visiting our other distribution locations.
It is extremely important to us to keep our clients safe. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through large gatherings of people we are asking that clients DO NOT ARRIVE OR LINE UP TO ANY FOOD DISTRIBUTION SITE MORE THAN 15 MINUTES BEFORE WE OPEN. There is enough food for everyone, and we are committed to maintaining safe neighbourhoods around our distribution sites without large gatherings of people. Please consider coming in the second half of the distribution time zone when the wait times are shorter.
November Schedule – Coming soon!
