Donor Advised Funds

A Donor Advised Fund lets you support the causes you love today, while giving you the freedom to decide where your generosity goes tomorrow. It's giving on your own terms, made simple.

What is a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)?

Think of a Donor Advised Fund as your own charitable savings account. You contribute money or assets, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then take your time deciding which causes to support. A fund manager handles the details, so all you have to do is choose where your heart wants to give.

Why Choose a DAF?

Giving should feel good, and a DAF makes that even easier.

  • Flexibility on your scheduleΒ
Contribute now and decide later. There’s no pressure to choose a charity right away.Β
  • Meaningful tax benefitsΒ
Receive your deduction the moment you contribute, even if you haven’t recommended a grant yet.Β
  • A lasting legacy
Build a giving plan that can grow over time and even be passed down to future generations.Β
  • Peace of mind
Your fund is professionally managed, so your generosity keeps working quietly in the background.Β

How to Get Started

Getting started is easier than you think.

1

Manage / Open a Donor Advised Fund

Many donors already have a Donor Advised Fund. If you do not have one but would like to open a Donor Advised Fund, please speak with your bank or financial advisor. GVFB is not affiliated with any financial or wealth management institutions so thereby cannot facilitate this process.

2

Recommend a grant

Direct a grant to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, in any amount, on your own timeline.

3

We'll take it from there

We'll confirm your gift and issue your acknowledgment letter. Please inform us of how you would like to be notified of your impact.

Let's talk about your gift

Every gift, big or small, helps us do more for the people in need in our community. If you have questions about giving through a DAF, we would love to hear from you.
