Vancouver, B.C. – The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) announced earlier this week that David Long will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of the organization. In this position Long will be accountable for the overall leadership of the GVFBS and for the achievement of the goals and objectives established by the Board and Management in its strategic and annual operating plans.
Since joining the GVFB as Chief Operating Officer in May 2018 David has made a positive impact in many areas of the operation including increasing operating efficiencies, reducing costs and spearheading the preparation of the move to the GVFB’s new location in Burnaby.
“With his extensive experience with dynamic organizations like Terminal City Club and Securiguard, we are confident that David has the skills to lead the Greater Vancouver Food Bank as we prepare for the next chapter in our organization’s history,” said Stephen Deedes-Vincke, Chair of the Board of Directors.
“With the move to Burnaby, we are preparing the Greater Vancouver Food Bank to continue to address the needs of the community for many years into the future,” said David Long, CEO of the GVFB. “We are really excited to be doubling our refrigeration capacity at our new location thanks to a refrigeration grant from Food Banks BC. The increase in space will improve our ability to receive large fresh food donations and then get that quality food out to our members and agency partners,” Long continued.“We are also incredibly grateful to the City of Burnaby who have been so receptive and supportive of our relocation”
The new warehouse and head office is located at 8345 Winston St, Burnaby, BC. near the Production Way Skytrain station. It includes 30,000 square feet of warehouse space and 8,000 square feet of office space. Each week, 27,500 individuals are served in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and North Shore. The warehouse serves as the GVFB’s primary food collection and sorting location and finding a facility that meets the unique needs was definitely no easy feat!
At the new location GVFB will be able to conduct all of the existing functions as well as incorporating a teaching kitchen and a larger volunteer lounge to allow bigger and more effective training sessions and events.
As the GVFB completes the move, they invite all existing and potential new volunteers to visit the new location on Winston Street to assist in many different ways whether it’s a warehouse food sort, helping out in the office or front of house, or at one of thier many events. The lease on the GVFB’s current warehouse and office expires on June 30, 2019.
