GVFB Reaches 80% of Campaign Goal to Purchase Permanent Home

June 24, 2025, Burnaby, BC: The Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) has reached 80% of its goal to own their Vancouver facility at 3454 Lougheed Hwy. Granted the unique opportunity to purchase the building from Beedie, the GVFB launched its first-ever Capital Campaign in March 2025, seeking support from the public to raise funding towards the $15 million campaign target. This milestone brings the GVFB closer to securing a permanent space.Β Β
After moving over six times since 2020, prior to leasing their current facility, the GVFB is excited to be settling into a permanent home that brings all their services under one roof.Β
Β
With 16,000 sq. ft. of floor space and over 19,000 cu. ft. of refrigeration, the facility supports direct distribution and agency pick-ups, creating a seamless and efficient workflow. Owning the building creates opportunity to tailor the food bank to their clientsβ needs, launching programs such as FRESH Start, working towards poverty reduction by connecting clients with onsite wrap-around services that address the primary drivers of food bank use.Β Β
“I am so happy that the Greater Vancouver Food Bank is over 80% of their Capital Campaign goal – a very significant milestone. Owning their first permanent home will guarantee their important food security work across Greater Vancouver, helping local people access fresh and nutritious food both now and for decades to come. I wish them every success in crossing that finishing line – let’s help the GVFB get there together by making a donation at freshfutures.ca!” – Martin Thibodeau, Regional President, Royal Bank of Canada. Β
The goal of the Fresh Futureβs campaign is to expand the GVFBβs impact even further. By obtaining a permanent location, the GVFB can provide clients and partner agencies with sustainable, long-term support, eliminating the risk of service disruptions. Owning the facility reduces the burden of managing multiple leases, allowing for streamlined operations, and focusing on assisting individuals and families in need. This stability enables the GVFB to dedicate more time to initiatives such as collaborating with local farmers to redistribute surplus food, increasing access to healthy, nutritious food for everyone.Β
