Vancouver, BC, Friday December 19th: In the spirit of the holiday season, multi-JUNO and GRAMMY Award-winning superstar entertainer, Michael Bublé, paid a surprise visit to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB), volunteering alongside staff to distribute Senior’s Program Packs to clients.

What began for some as a regular food bank visit quickly turned into an unforgettable Christmas moment, as clients realized who was volunteering that day. The visit brought joy to the GVFB’s Vancouver location, underscoring the power of human connection.

With high energy and smiling faces, the GVFB doesn’t feel like your average food bank, but they still saw over 800,000 visits last year between direct distribution and their 160+ agency partners. After purchasing their Vancouver location earlier this year, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank has widened their operations, introducing new initiatives such as the FRESH Start Program, enhanced food preservation, and increased food distribution capacity throughout Western Canada.

“Our goal is always to ensure that every person who walks through our doors feels respected, welcomed, and supported. Moments like this, where our clients feel seen and celebrated, reinforce why community matters so much in the work we do. Michael, showing up in such a genuine way, created an experience our clients will remember long after the holidays.” David Long, CEO, Greater Vancouver Food Bank

Beyond his remarkable musical career, Michael has been recognized for his charitable and creative work as a philanthropist and longtime supporter of the BC Children’s Hospital, the Burnaby Hospital Foundation, The Arts Club Theatre Company, and various other organizations that have allowed him to continue making a positive impact on his hometown community. Michael, a BC native himself, reached out to see how he could be of service this holiday season and chose to get directly involved on the front lines.

“I’ve been lucky enough to stand on some pretty big stages, but the moments that matter most are the ones where we show up for each other. The Greater Vancouver Food Bank reminds us that community is about dignity, compassion, and making sure no one has to face hard times alone. It’s about neighbors helping neighbors, making sure everyone feels cared for and supported when life gets tough,” Michael shares.

Michael’s generosity extends past his distribution shift. He is inviting the community to join him in supporting neighbours, newcomers, seniors and children in the community through his Virtual Food Drive (VFD). Through this fundraiser, the GVFB can maximize their impact through its 2:1 buying power, allowing funds to go further purchasing nutritious food.

Over seventy-five percent of the GVFB client menu consists of fresh food, and funds raised through the VFD will directly support fresh food purchases, resources for their FRESH Start Program, and the GVFB’s vision of a British Columbia where everyone has access to healthy food through efficient distribution, innovation, and partnerships.
