April 7-13, 2019
Good morning!
This week is National Volunteer Week and I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to our over 1,700 volunteers on behalf of the entire Greater Vancouver Food Bank Team. This year’s theme for National Volunteer week is The Volunteer Factor – Lifting Communities. I see the incredible impact your gift of time makes in the lives of food bank members and staff, lifting community pride, lifting spirits, and lifting a box of food or two!
My hope is that volunteering with the GVFB gives our volunteers a bit of a lift as well. An important part of volunteering is the opportunity to work with other people, building a sense of common purpose and community. Together, our spirits can be lifted when we see how our efforts have helped someone else. Our confidence is boosted when we gain skills and experience through volunteering.
Please know that we appreciate our volunteer’s efforts each and every time they donate their time to our organization and that we simply could not do what we do to support our catchment communities of Burnaby, Vancouver, The North Shore and New Westminster without them. The Greater Vancouver Food Bank runs on people power!
From all of us at the GVFB we wish you a happy National Volunteer Week 2019!
