The B.C. film industry once again did their best to raise funds for the needy and a TV series that is filming its final season came out on top in its fundraising efforts for a second consecutive year.
Among the TV productions that competed in the 2019 Reel Thanksgiving Challenge to raise funds for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank were Riverdale, Charmed, Batwoman, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Snowpiercer, Virgin River, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, and A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting.
The friendly competition ran from September 30 to October 11.
The top five teams, announced today (October 15), included The Good Doctor ($15,874), A Million Little Things ($16,054), and The Magicians ($25,525).
The Twilight Zone came in second place with $44,498.
Supernatural took the top spot by raising $47,450.
The Supernatural team went all out, also winning the social media challenge, with a $3,000 contribution to its fundraising from sponsors UBCP/ACTRA, Martini Film Studios, and Sunbelt Rentals, as well as raising a record amount in one day in this year’s challenge ($32,515).
Supernatural also won the 2018 Reel Thanksgiving Challenge with $40,592.
The long-running TV series is currently shooting its 15th season, which will also be its concluding chapter.
This year’s cumulative total came to $284,642, which helped the challenge surpass a $1,000,000 milestone in funds raised since it began seven years ago.
Every dollar can purchase $3 worth of food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
