Role Overview:

TheΒ GVFB offers specialized nutritionβ€―packs:β€―three Children's Programs and the Seniors' Program. EachΒ bagΒ your group assembles will be delivered to our distribution locationsβ€―and helpβ€―someone in need.β€―.

Key Responsibilities:Β 
  • Assemble nutrition packs with a specific number of items;β€―β€―Β 
  • Set up and take down the production line (tables, supplies, etc.);β€―β€―Β 
  • Restock the production line with food;β€―β€―Β 
  • Sweep and sanitize the packing area;β€―β€―Β 
  • Recycle packaging and compost spoiled food;β€―β€―Β 
  • Followβ€―instructions,β€―procedures,β€―FIFOβ€―(First in, first out)β€―and safety guidelines toβ€―helpβ€―maintainβ€―the quality and safety of food and beverages;β€―Β 
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to create a safe working environment;β€―Β 
  • Assistβ€―with other warehouse-relatedβ€―dutiesβ€―assigned byβ€―Warehouse staff.β€―β€―β€―Β 
Core Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work in a busy and sometimes noisy environment where machinery may beβ€―operatingβ€―during shifts;β€―Β 
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure packs are assembled accurately and meet quality standards;β€―Β 
  • Ability to complete tasks efficiently within established timelines to help keep the assembly line running smoothly;β€―Β 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to support a safe and efficient workflow.β€―Β 
Physical Requirements:Β 
  • Ability to stand forβ€―extended periods of time;β€―β€―β€―Β 
  • Capability to perform repetitive tasks;β€―Β 
  • Ability to bend, twist, andβ€―lift upβ€―to 20β€―lbsβ€―safely;β€―β€―Β 
  • Comfortable working in a temperature-controlled environment (typically set at 2 to 4 degrees Celsius). Jackets,β€―glovesβ€―and toquesβ€―are provided on-site;β€―β€―Β Β

Role Overview:

Volunteers will play a key role in restocking the shelves with fresh, frozen, and pantry items. This is a great opportunity for your group to work together, ensure the FIFO method is applied to reduce food waste, and directly contribute to supporting the community.

Responsibilities:
  • Quality check donated perishables, including fruits, vegetables, dairy, and deli products, adhering to GVFB food safety and best before date practices;β€―
  • Dispose of non-consumable products intoβ€―appropriate wasteβ€―streams (recycling,Β ReFeedΒ bins,β€―Depack);β€―Β 
  • Efficiently organize food to ensure proper placement and easy access;β€―Β 
  • Rotate items based on first in, first out (FIFO) method;β€―Β 
  • Ensureβ€―marketβ€―areas are well stocked and merchandised to GVFB standards;β€―Β 
  • Sweep and clean the facility to maintain GVFB standards;β€―Β 
  • Clean the workstation at the end of each shift; empty waste bins, wipe all surfaces and mop the floor;β€―β€―Β 
  • Monitor parking lot and provide directions to Agencies and vehicles as neededβ€―(Vancouver only);β€―Β 
  • Efficiently complete other market support-related tasks as assigned byβ€―Agencies staff.β€―Β 
Core Skills and Abilities:
  • Detail-oriented to ensure that food is accurately quality checked;β€―Β 
  • Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure the quality of preserved food;β€―Β 
  • Ability to work independently and perform tasksβ€―in a timely manner;β€―Β 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a small team of volunteers;β€―Β 
  • Ability to use manual pallet jack or a willingness to learn how to use (training provided by staff on-site).β€―Β 
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for three hours;β€―Β 
  • Ability to bend, twist, andβ€―lift upβ€―to 40β€―lbsβ€―safely;β€―Β 
  • Ability to complete repetitive tasks;β€―Β 
  • Comfortable working in a temperature-controlled environment (typically set at 2 to 4 degrees Celsius). Jackets and gloves are provided on-site.β€―Β
