Imagine you woke up one morning and there was no food for you and your family because you had to choose between rent or food.
Karen has experienced it before. She needed the support of the Food Bank and we were there for her. Karen made it her mission to always check on her friends and provide resources to help those in need.
Now that she’s back on her feet after a tremendous amount of hard work, Karen decided to include the Food Bank in her Will.
“To be honest, I’ve lived homeless for a time myself. It is a terrifying, vulnerable way of life. I’ve seen firsthand how food makes a difference to people in need. I really appreciated having the Food Bank to turn to during my time of need.”
Karen now lives a quiet, stable life, with everything she needs.
“I recently made my estate plan and wrote my Will. I thought, ‘Can I reduce suffering even after I’m gone?’ After taking care of my loved one, I decided to leave a gift in my Will to the Food Bank. I volunteered to tell you because I’m excited that people in need will benefit from my gift in the future.”
Karen wishes there wasn’t a need for food banks and that everyone had enough good, healthy food to eat. However, we know the need will still be there tomorrow and sadly that need grows every day.
A gift in your Will can make an enormous difference to hungry people in your community. In many cases, you will give people a chance to get their lives back on track.
Greater Vancouver Food Bank donors (and spouses), aged 55 or over, can have their simple Will written or updated FREE of charge through our partnership with The Canadian Free Wills Network. There is absolutely no obligation to include us in your Will.
